Hello and welcome to the new year!
In 2007 we have added additional therapies and protocols for both physical medicine and functional medicine. Over the past eight years we have focused primarily on physical medicine, the treatment of the neuromusculoskeletal system. We have implemented a therapies such as massage therapy, laser therapy and lumbar disc decompression therapy. These therapies have been made affordable for patients.
Laser Therapy:
Laser therapy uses light to provide energy to the cells of your body. Very similar to ultrasound laser therapy is considered a treatment modality. Laser therapy provides increased circulation, increased healing, decreased muscle spasm and decreased swelling. Laser therapy has also been used for other alternative treatments such as smoking cessation and weight loss.
Photon energy is penetrated into the tissue eliciting photochemical and photobiological responses. Photoreceptors respond to laser light causing a build-up of singlet oxygen. Singlet oxygen is a free radical that influences the formation of ATP (adenosine triphosphate), the cells energy and fuel source. Increased ATP production leads to a cascade of reactions aiding the healing process, such as, increased cell metabolism and collagen synthesis, local effects on the immune system, and many other measured effects.
Decompression therapy is indicated for patients with certain types of lumbar herniated discs and degenerative disc disease. Decompression therapy is a mechanical traction protocol specific for the disc level of involvement. Isolated traction to a specific lumbar intervertebral disc decreases in pressure and restores motion in the involved to segment. Decompression therapy in combination with current treatment protocols provides a patient with the opportunity to complete active lumbar stabilization leading to resolution of symptoms. Decompression therapy and current protocols is an excellent alternative for lumbar surgery.
